What is a Parenting Agreement?

A parenting agreement is a contract reached between parties, which governs how their child will be cared for in the future. A parenting agreement may cover a wide range of issues including custody, access (including holidays), terms regarding where the children will reside primarily and secondarily, financial support, education, healthcare and religion.

Is a Parenting Agreement right for You?

A parenting agreement allows parties to determine important issues such as custody and access. It is often considered more beneficial for children if parties are able to make important decisions regarding the care of their children as opposed to a judge making these decisions for them. If there is a high level of conflict between parties, it is possible to enlist the help of therapists or professional parenting coordinators. These third party professionals may assist with the negotiation of terms of the parenting agreement if they cannot do so either on their own or through counsel.
