Bio

I knew my calling was to practice law after participating in mock trials in high school, particularly when I represented my school at the provincial level. The following years, I attended university both in Toronto and abroad, including interning in a foreign parliament working with the Minister of Justice and reporting to the Economics Committee on my research. I completed my law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School and then articled with prominent Queen’s Counsel in Constitutional, Administrative, Criminal and Civil law.

After being called to the Ontario Bar in 2002, I initially practiced in criminal law, including financial and domestic cases that often converged with family law issues. I felt that diffusing emotional and complex family matters was fascinating and rewarding work, so I decided to shift my practice exclusively to family law. Today, I have over two decades of experience in family law litigation, and I am able to effectively use this experience to help produce successful outcomes for our clients, particularly in high conflict situations.

Separation and divorce are life-altering events. I have relished assisting clients reach solutions to highly complex financial and parenting problems, while simultaneously ensuring they can exit the process with their dignity intact, and with their relationships (with their children and former spouses), not only intact, but often thriving. I work with our clients to resolve their legal issues as expeditiously and civilly as possible.

Our clients trust that I will identify issues, risks and exposures that have resulted from their separation, and provide them with frank and strategic legal advice as to how to navigate the process going-forward. I take pride in diving deep into the issues (be it tax, valuations, corporations, alienation and estrangement, and psychological impacts on parenting, among others), and understanding those issues from first principles, so that more favourable outcomes can be reached that will meet our clients’ needs. Clients regularly comment that my confident, calm demeanor gives them tremendous peace of mind in what is often the most stressful time in their lives.

Our clients also trust that I will seek to reduce conflict where possible, negotiate comprehensive agreements, and will secure effective solutions on their behalf in court (and from decision-makers) at the numerous trials, motions, and appeals I argue. Our clients know that I will ensure their narrative and concerns are heard no matter what forum they are in.

I look forward to speaking with you, understanding your unique circumstances, explaining the process, and with your assistance, navigating the path ahead to a happier, better life.
